If you’re into wifesharing in one of it’s many forms (cuckolding, hotwifing, stag & vixen, swinging, etc.) then you were bound to come across the insulting criticism which asserts that men who partake in such activities have a mental disorder.
This brief article is meant to address that criticism in the most concise and straightforward way possible. How, you might ask?
By referencing the official manual of Psychology, the DSM (Diagnostic & Statistical Manual), which actually defines what a mental disorder is.
We’re going to use the DSM-IV as our reference guide.
According to the DSM-IV, here are the 5 features of a mental disorder:
A) Clinically significant behavioral or psychological syndrome or pattern that occurs in an individual
B) Is associated with present distress (e.g., a painful symptom) or disability (i.e., impairment in one or more important areas of functioning) or with a significantly increased risk of suffering death, pain, disability, or an important loss of freedom
C) Must not be merely an expectable and culturally sanctioned response to a particular event, for example, the death of a loved one
D) A manifestation of a behavioral, psychological, or biological dysfunction in the individual
E) Neither deviant behavior (e.g., political, religious, or sexual) nor conflicts that are primarily between the individual and society are mental disorders unless the deviance or conflict is a symptom of a dysfunction in the individual
Now the clearest and most accurate way of checking whether or not something can or can not be classed as a mental disorder doesn’t get any clearer/more black and white than by actually checking whether or not that something meets the official criteria of what a mental disorder is.
So, let me ask you: does engaging in the practice of wanting or allowing your wife to sleep with another man satisfy all 5 of those criteria?
It doesn’t really satisfy any of them, does it?
Just in case it isn’t crystal clear though, take a look at that last criteria. Even if you could somehow say cuckolding/hotwifing satisfied the other four criteria—which you can’t—the fifth one disqualifies it completely without question.
So the next time you come across something that makes you wonder if there’s something wrong or abnormal with you or someone you know who has cuckold or hotwife tendencies, remember this post.
Hopefully know you unequivocally know and understand that cuckolding/hotwifing do not, can not, and should not be even remotely considered mental disorders. That said..
PASS IT ON!
